Defending the Pope: Religion and Reason
spacebar

Pope Benedict recently spoke in an attempt to draw Muslims into a rational, religious dialog rather than resorting to religious terrorism. The speech, quoting a 14th century emperor reacting to the violent military invasions by the Muslims, aroused fury throughout the Moslem world. It developed into actual violence in several countries: some Christian churches were burned, and a nun was murdered in Somalia, and the Pope’s life has been threatened by radical Islamic clerics.

Later, the Pope said the quote was misunderstood to be his own opinion. He did not retract his statements, but instead noted his "high regard" for Islam and his "deep regret" at the strong reaction his words caused.

This irrational response by many Islamic leaders (and their followers) is just one more example of the gravity the entire Western civilization is facing from Muslims who follow the example of their Prophet to spread their religion by the sword.

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” Psalm 96:2,3 NIV
